GETTING THERE AND LOCAL INFORMATION
From LAX, Australia and New.Zealand it's simple.
Auckland and Nadi (Fiji) are the local hubs for this part of the
South Pacific.
Air New Zealand offer direct flights from
LAX to Nuku’alofa, from there it is a short hop to VaVa’u.
You may wish to visit New Zealand or Fiji
during your visit. Direct flights are available from both places
to Nuku’alofa.
Virgin Blue and Jetstar fly from Australia
and New Zealand to Tonga.
*Please note that there are no internal
flights on Sundays.
Weather
It is usually less humid than other
Tropical areas; the temperatures in Tonga range from 77F-80F in
the Winter (May to Sept) and up to 85F in the Summer (October to
April). Sea temperatures remain constant at 79F. The southeast
blow at 15-25Kts in the Winter with lighter northeast winds in
the Summer. Cyclone season is December to March but the weather
usually remains stable as VaVa’u has traditionally had for
fewer storms than the rest of the South Pacific Islands.
(Certainly many less storms than the Caribbean)

Public and private medical facilities are
available in VaVa’u
Currency
The local currency is the Pa’anga, very
few places accept credit cards however there are ATM machines in
Town where you can get cash. The best idea is to get your
spending money at the International Airport on your arrival at
Nuku’alofa.

Everything is closed on a Sunday in Tonga

meet your flight from Nuku’alofa and bring you out to the
boat.
